Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) Course

The Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) course is designed to help healthcare professionals improve patient care and outcomes during the critical first hours of a patient’s neurological emergency. Now in its fifth version, ENLS demonstrates a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach and provides a consistent set of protocols, practical checklists, decision points, and suggested communication to use during patient management.

After completing each ENLS topic, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of the neurological emergency,
  • Perform a focused neurological exam and calculate the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score,
  • Rapidly implement the recommended management protocol, and
  • Effectively communicate pertinent medical information to the accepting health care provider. 

Each topic also has specific learning objectives unique to the topic that students will master. 

This course consists of a two days face-to-face attendance, which will take place in Al Awasi International Training Centre. In addition to online course that can be accessed for 2 years.

ENLS consists of 14 protocols. Each protocol was designed and written by neurointensivists and emergency medicine physicians. These protocols are designed to provide the same advice an expert in neurocritical care would provide if you called the physician for a consult and asked, “What should I do in the first hour to best help this patient and hand them off to you?”

  • Intracranial Hypertension and Herniation
  • Airway, Ventilation and Sedation
  • Resuscitation Following Cardiac Arrest
  • Acute Non-Traumatic Weakness
  • Acute Ischemic Stroke
  • Intracerebral Hemorrhage
  • Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury
  • Spinal Cord Compression
  • Status Epilepticus
  • Meningitis and Encephalitis
  • Pharmacotherapy

The course is accredited from American Neurocritical Care Society (NCS).

After successfully completion of the course you will get an international certificate with no need for authentication from Sudan foreigns affair ministry.

The certificate is accepted in different countries worldwide including USA, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar, Ireland and UK.

To gain ENLS certification, the online portion of the course must be completed. This involves passing the 14 exams with a score of 70% or higher. ENLS certification is valid for two years, during which an individual retains access to their ENLS account and course materials.

Good english language, as the instruction and assessment languaege is english.

Reading the course material is not mandatory before the course. However, it will prepare you better and the instructor can answer all your questions, and also give your advice on how to implement the recommendation on the local settting.

ENLS is designed for all health care providers who may encounter or provide care for patients with neurological emergencies in the first hour of their emergency care, including paramedics, emergency department physicians, critical care physicians, neurosurgeons, nurses, pharmacists, medical students and resident/fellow trainees. 

Certification can be renewed by completing the ENLS Recertification Course. This course includes medical updates and module additions to the original course’s manuscripts and protocols. To gain ENLS recertification, the online portion of the course must be completed. This involves passing the 14 exams with a score of 70% or higher.

  • Is BLS required for ENLS?

No, there are no prerequisite courses to the ENLS.

  • How long is the course?

Two days, from 08:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

  • Is there an exam in the course?

You need to take an online assessment for each module and get 70% to pass. 

  • Can I retake the exam in case of failure?

Yes you can, without paying any additional fees. If you didn’t pass you can repeat it until you get the pass mark, however, you will not get the certificate unless you pass all the modules. 

  • How can I get my completion certificate?

Yes, you will get an international certificate sent to your email once you passed the assessments and completed the online feedback.

  • Is there an expiration date for the certificate?

Yes, it’s valid for 2 years.

  • Do I need to take the course again after 2 years?

You can take a re-certification course.

  • Can I pay in the course day?

No, you have to pay the full course fees before the course dates.

  • When will I receive my certificate?

Immediately after passing all the modules and filling the course feedback.
